High school hockey season begins tonight

The local high school hockey season will begin play for keeps on Saturday night after two nights of exhibition contests. The regular season begins Saturday at Memorial Gardens with a tripleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The local high school hockey season will begin play for keeps on Saturday night after two nights of exhibition contests.

The regular season begins Saturday at Memorial Gardens with a tripleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. as the White Pines Wolverines meet the Sir James Dunn Eagles.

The Bawating Braves play the Korah Colts at 7:15 p.m. followed by the St. Basil Saints versus the St. Mary's Knights at 9 p.m.

The Saints enter the season as the defending city champions.

The annual East/West game will be held at the Gardens on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m.

In exhibition play on Friday at the John Rhodes Community Centre, Nigel Good scored three times to lead the Central Algoma Secondary School (CASS) Huskies past the Braves 5-2.

Kyle Brick and Gary Reed also scored for the Huskies while Scott Huber and Jordan Belleau replied for the Braves.

Deryl Mills, Graham Dalseg and Tyler Robinson scored for the Eagles in a 3-1 win over White Pines. Josh Reid scored the lone goal for the Wolverines.

On Wednesday night, Dalseg and Robinson scored in an Eagles 2-2 tie with St. Mary's. Jordan Rochetta and Rocky Robitaille scored for the Knights.

CASS used goals from Matt Valiquette, Mike Brown, Good, Jordan Dominey and Brennan North in a 5-1 win over the Wolverines. Scott Reid scored for White Pines.

In the other game, Craig Lethbridge scored twice to pace Bawating to a 2-2 tie with Korah. Frank Bumbacco and Bob Hammerstedt scored for the Colts.
