The Korah Colts won the Sault Ste. Marie city badminton championship in May for the 30th year in a row - making them one of the most dominant high school athletic programs in the province.
This historic streak started in 1993, launched by coaches Joanne McKinnon and Janis Hogan, and continues under longtime coach Scott Krivan.
Over three decades, the Colts have built a program that has produced dozens of NOSSA champions, multiple OFSAA medalists, and even national-level medalists.
This year, Korah continued its tradition of all-around dominance by securing titles in the Junior, Senior, and Aggregate divisions.

For the 30th consecutive year, the Korah Colts have captured the Sault Ste. Marie city badminton championship, solidifying their legacy as one of the most dominant high school athletic programs in Ontario.
The historic streak, which began in 1993, was launched under the leadership of coaches Joanne McKinnon and Janis Hogan and has continued to flourish under longtime coach Scott Krivan. Over three decades, the Colts have built a powerhouse program that has produced dozens of NOSSA champions, multiple OFSAA medalists, and even national-level medalists.
Krivan credits the team’s success, not just to outstanding performances , but the teamwork aspect of the sport. “It’s the teamwork year after year that’s led to this streak. Our kids play for each other and are proud to represent Korah. It’s not the talent that makes this streak possible, it’s the culture. A culture started by Hogan and McKinnon, built on desire to improve, mentorship and community”.
This year’s championship was no exception, as Korah continued its tradition of all-around dominance by securing titles in the Junior, Senior, and Aggregate divisions. Each team member contributed crucial wins in their respective divisions to secure the overall title.
While St. Mary’s College captured the top spot in the Novice division and Superior Heights claimed second place across the board, it was the Colts who once again stood at the top of the podium—just as they have for three decades.
As the Korah Colts raise another championship banner, they do so as more than just city champions. They represent 30 years of excellence, resilience, and pride—looking forward to the future!
