Amanda Evans sunk a free throw with one second left on the clock to lift the White Pines Wolverines to a frantic 40-39 win over the Mount St. Joseph Royals in senior girls high school basketball play on Thursday. The made free throw came after Evans missed her first shot and capped a frantic comeback for the Wolverines, who trailed from the second minute of the game on and were behind by eight late in the third quarter. Evans finished with 15 points and Laura Sharp added 11 for the Wolverines, now 3-3 on the season after starting out 0-2. White Pines has won its three games this season by a total of seven points. Julia Colizza sparked the Mount with 17 points while Lauren Catania added 14 for the Royals, now 1-4. In other action: St. Basil improved to 5-0 as Heidi Jaaskelainen scored 14 points and Kaitlin DeBoer added 12 in a 64-23 Saints' win over Korah. Lauren Podolski had seven points for the Colts, now 1-4. And the St. Mary's Knights improved to 5-0 by cuffing the Bawating Braves 40-23 as Roberta Reid and Jessica King hit for eight points apiece. Kristen Timusk scored nine for Bawating, now 1-4. The Sir James Dunn Eagles, with a 2-3 record, had the Thursday bye.
