Michael Gold was awarded the checkered flag in the late model feature at Laird International Raceway on Thursday night following post race tech inspections.
Race winner Rod Bolduc Jr. was disqualified after the race for failing to meet the ride height requirements.
It was a busy night for the tech crew as two drivers were also disqualified following the stock four feature for failing to meet weight requirements.
*** SAULT STEELERS HOME OPENER:
The Northern Football Conference home opener for the Sault Steelers is set for Saturday night at Rocky DiPietro Field beginning at 7 p.m. against the Markham Raiders.
The Steelers will look to build on a good showing in their season opener last weekend in Oakville. The locals lost 20-6 to the perennial powerhouse.
*** ACT WINNERS:
Janine Olthius received the top honour at the Associated Canadian Travellers (ACT) Awards on Wednesday night at the Marconi Club, saluting local female high school athletes.
Olthius, a top athlete at Sir James Dunn, received the Percy Bedford Award for her talents this past year in volleyball, basketball, badminton and track and field.
Others nominated for the award include Stephanie Thayer (Bawating), Anita Hazzard (Korah), Heather Lewis (Mount St. Joseph), Aine Coccimiglio (St. Basil), Amanda Pletsch (St. Mary's) and Courtney Carlucci (White Pines).
Recipients of the Harvey Morrison Award for contributions to school athletics were Aubrey Holmes (Bawating), Andrea Chouinard (Mount St. Joseph), Aniela Pulice (St. Basil), Heather Pletsch (St. Mary's) and Katie McMeeken (SJD).
Individual sport winners were Simone Appaqaq (SJD) in badminton, Aine Coccimiglio (St. Basil) in basketball, Marnie Smith (SJD) in cross-country, Stephanie Sammon (MSJC) in curling, Tara Paluzzi (St. Basil) in track and field and Christina Crozier (SJD) in volleyball.
