Thursday night saw half of the finalists for the two Mayor's Cup divisions determined in action at the Soo Pee Wee Arena.
The early game saw Tulloch Engineering skate their way into the Over-33 Division final with a 5-2 victory over Mr. Transmission while the Open Division game saw A.J. Bus Lines score four unanswered goals en route to a 4-2 victory over Assante Capital/Mr. Transmission to earn a berth in Saturday's final.
In the Over-33 Division game, Mark Pavoni scored a pair of goals while Tim Inch, Scott Sloss, and Darren Evans each added singles as Tulloch defeated Mr. Transmission. Mark Patellia and Doug Laprode scored for Mr. Transmission.
Pavoni's second of the night and the final goal by Evans were each scored into an empty net in the final minute of the third period sealed the victory for Tulloch.
The Open Division saw Mr. Transmission jump out to an early lead on a Greg Mizzi goal in the first period. After Nick Boldirev scored early in the second period to give Mr. Transmission a two goal lead, A.J. Bus lines exploded for four straight goals for the victory.
Dave Doan scored late in the second period while Mike Sharp, Kelsey Wilson and Adam Kauppi each scored third period goals to give A.J. Bus Lines the victory.
Action in the Mayor's Cup continues on Friday evening at the Soo Pee Wee Arena as the second semi-final in both divisions will take place. The 8 p.m. game will see Stitch King—Weedman face off with Smack Daddy's in Over-33 Division action while the Open Division's second semi-final will see the Wawa Travellers Alumni facing Clarica—Blueliners.
