This weekend, Algoma University and the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club are proud to host the 2020 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Nordic Ski Championships at Hiawatha Highlands.

Eleven Nordic ski teams from across the province will participate, including the Carleton Ravens, Guelph Gryphons, Lakehead Thunderwolves, Laurentian Voyageurs, McMaster Marauders, Nipissing Lakers, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Queen’s Gaels, Toronto Varsity Blues, Waterloo Warriors, and the Algoma University Thunderbirds.

"The Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club is excited to be co-hosting this weekend’s OUA Nordic Ski Championships,” shared Chief of Competition, Amy Wheeler Reich. “Our Ski Club volunteers are happy to be able to host this high-calibre competition for varsity skiers from across the province, on the ski trails that our predecessors built for our community in cooperation with the Kinsmen Club of SSM. Cross country skiing is truly a sport for life, and we are honoured to guide skiers on this pathway.”

Rebekah Gwynn and Nicolas Kornsunski will be representing Algoma University at this year’s championships which run from Feb. 21-23, 2020. The team last competed at the Ontario Cup in North Bay under the direction of co-head coaches, Connor Psiuk and Ian Sinclair.

“This year we have worked hard on laying a solid foundation as a team, and we have two very dedicated skiers that are up to the task,” notes Psiuk. “We look forward to this weekend and competing against some of the best skiers in Ontario on the beautiful trails of Hiawatha Highlands.”
