Ontario Cup Soccer action was prominent in Sault Ste. Marie over the weekend as three different divisions held tournaments at the Strathclair soccer fields on Saturday and Sunday.
Action in the tournaments took place in the Boys Under-12 Division, the Boys Under-13 Division as well as a one game showdown in the Girls Under-15 Division.
On Saturday, the Girls Under-15 Division saw the Sault Steel Speed Civics take on the North Bay Panthers and knock off the visitors by a 3-0 score. In the Boys Under-12 Division, the Culligan Sault Civics finished third as they finished the tournament with a win, two losses and a tie.
The locals opened the tournament with a 2-0 victory over Ottawa South United on Saturday, before finishing the day off with a 1-1 tie against Ajax Rapids.
Culligan then proceeded to drop their two games on Sunday, first losing 1-0 to the Aurora Stingers, who went on to finish first, and then dropping a 2-0 decision at the hands of the Sarnia Bluewater Strikers.
The locals finished the tournament in third spot behind Aurora and Sarnia.
The Boys Under-13 Division wasn't as kind to local teams as the Sault Star Legion Civics finished the five team tournament with an 0-4 record.
The locals lost 9-0 to the Mississauga Erin Mills Eagles A to open the tournament on Saturday before dropping a 2-1 decision to Strathroy Middlesex United later on in the day.
On Sunday the team dropped two 7-1 decisions at the hands of the Pickering Power Strikers and the Woodbridge Strikers. Mississauga finished the tournament in top spot while Woodbridge finished second.
Ontario Cup action continues locally next weekend as the Under-14 Girls Division will see action on Saturday and Sunday at the Strathclair soccer fields.
