The Sault College Cougars grabbed one of a possible three victories over the weekend.
Hosting the St. Clair Saints on Saturday at Sault College, the Cougar women’s volleyball team took a four set decision while the men’s basketball dropped a close contest.
On Friday, the volleyball team dropped three straight sets to Humber College.
On Saturday, Desiree Simon stepped up with 22 offensive points as the lady Cougars claimed a 25-19, 25-17, 21-25, 28-26 victory over St. Clair.
Simon posted 16 kills, four stuff blocks and two service aces. Ashley Browning scored 18 points on eight kills and 10 aces, Ashley Whitmell added 13 points on seven kills, one block and five aces and Nicole Beauchamp gathered 10 points on four kills and six aces.
Sarah Atkinson gained seven points off four kills, two aces and a block while Kari-Lyn Chamberlain added six points on three kills and three aces.
In the men’s basketball game, St. Clair edged the Cougars 75-71 to drop the local’s record to 6-2 in the Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) west division.
Brady Bolan led the Cougars with 24 points including 17 in the second half. Yusef Wong Chong added 16 points, Jeff Rennison eight while Sean Seivwright and Dionte Dunning scored seven each.
Akeil John led the Saints with 24 points and Jerome Forde added 19.
On Friday, the women dropped a 25-20, 25-14, 25-19 decision to Humber.
Simon led the Cougars with 10 points on seven kills, a block and two aces. Browning scored six on four kills and two aces while Beauchamp added another six points on two kills and four aces.
The weekend split moved the women’s record to 3-9 on the season.
