Sault Minor Football completes week one

A new season in the Sault Minor Football Association began over the weekend with action in both the tyke and bantam divisions. In tyke, Brock Hoover scored three touchdowns to lead Sports Gold past Tingrins 49-21.

A new season in the Sault Minor Football Association began over the weekend with action in both the tyke and bantam divisions.

In tyke, Brock Hoover scored three touchdowns to lead Sports Gold past Tingrins 49-21.

David McNally added a pair of touchdowns, including a reception from quarterback Mario Bruni. Patrick Dubois returned the opening kick off 80 yards for the other score.

Greg Gagnon scored two touchdowns for Tingrins while Jared Theriault added the other.

Jeffrey Guzzo scored two touchdowns, including a 50 yard scamper, to lead Rome's past G.P. Flakeboard 29-14.

Alex Griffa caught a 30 yard pass from Matthew Davies and Aidan MacLeod scored from one yard out to cap the scoring for Rome's.

Matthew Fitton scored both G.P. Flakeboard touchdowns.

In the final tyke contest, Chris Levave became the first player in SMFA history to score two defensive touchdowns in one game as Clean Gear blanked Membercare 14-0.

In the bantam division, quarterback Michael Tassone hit receiver Ryan Lund for a 40 yard touchdown with 14 seconds left to lift Brody's past the Firefighters 14-8.

In a game that was stopped due to lightning, Scholar's leads Aurora's West Side 6-0 with 13:22 remaining in the game. The contest will be completed at a later date.

Action continues on Sunday at Queen Elizabeth Field.
