The SPWHL U11 Selects Steelers capped off their first season playing as part of an NOHA pilot project for Select teams in Northern Ontario by winning the Ajax Pickering Spring Thaw tournament on Sunday.

After a 1-3 record in the round robin the team rallied to win a do-or-die game against the Ajax Pickering Raiders (2-1) to clinch a fourth-seed in the semi-finals.

With a renewed energy and determination to win, the Steelers battled the undefeated North Bay Trappers in the semis to a lopsided victory of 5-2.

The championship game against the Prince Edward County Kings was a nail-biter. The Steelers fell behind early, forcing them to rally and engage the defence, who were able to score three goals from the blue line, tying it up in the last four minutes of the game.

Overtime saw a short-lived 3-on-3 after a quick OT golden goal by the Steelers.

The entire team showed grit and heart, ultimately bringing home the gold to Sault Ste. Marie. Congratulations, Steelers!

The Selects Steelers are comprised of: Brookston Ball, Samuel Bennetto, Arlo Brideau, Ryker Cada, Carson Crosby, Isabella Digasparro, Levi Hunter, Merik Lorenzo, Mason MacDonald, Andrew Mallia, Noel Merlino, Grayson Mortimore, Clara Murray, Jack O'Reilly, Klara Parsons, Remington Rowley and Landon Van Hoof. Affiliate players include Mason DiDonatto, Michael Leed and Rowan Reynolds-Whalen.
