It's been a long time since men's league baseball was played in town but the Soo Minor Baseball Association is looking to change that.
The SMBA is in the midst of forming a new senior division for players born in 1981 or earlier (22 years or older) but more players are needed in order to continue with the plans to begin play on May 20.
At least four teams are needed and thus far the SMBA midget selects and junior selects are the only confirmed teams. Garden River First Nation has expressed interest in forming a team while other individuals are needed to form other teams.
Teams will play a 20 to 24 game schedule with all games, including night contests, at Sinclair Yards all under the direction of the SMBA.
"The problem we are having is that not too many people know about this. It been over 10 years since we've had a senior league in town," said Ed Jordan, a long-time SMBA member involved in the formation of the senior division.
A final meeting to determine if there is enough interest will be held May 15 at 7 p.m. at Sinclair Yards. All interested players are urged to attend.
"Everything is in place here. We have the fields, the lights, the umpires all run under the SMBA. But we need to find out for sure on the 15th whether or not we got it going," said Jordan.
