STEEL CITY TOURNAMENT STARTS THURSDAY

Every arena in Sault Ste. Marie will be busy from Thursday through Sunday of this week, as the annual Steel City International Hockey Tournament will take place. Featured divisions are AAA midget and AAA bantam, AA midget and AA bantam.

Every arena in Sault Ste. Marie will be busy from Thursday through Sunday of this week, as the annual Steel City International Hockey Tournament will take place. Featured divisions are AAA midget and AAA bantam, AA midget and AA bantam. A number of Ontario Hockey League scouts are expected to be in town for the four-day event. At the AAA midget level, the Soo North Stars are one of 20 teams entered. The North Stars are in second place in the Great North Midget Hockey League with a 17-7-4 record for 38 points, five back of Sudbury Lockerby. David Turco leads the North Stars in scoring with 17-17-34 totals followed by rookie Adam Combs at 17-10-27. Combs, fellow forward Michael Sharp and defenceman Trevor Solomon are all being watched closely by the OHL scouts as is goalie Michael Maulucci. Maulucci, who is a year older than Combs, Sharp and Solomon, leads the Great North league with a 2.49 goals-against-average.
