The Sault Storm has won but one of six games this Northern Football Conference season. And while a playoff spot may be out of reach for the locals, they'll try to make it two wins in a row tonight. It's a 7 p.m. start at Rocky DiPietro Field as the Storm plays host to the expansion Milton Marauders. Milton is the only winless team in the NFC. The Storm is coming off a 7-0 win at Sudbury against the Spartans last week. While the season has been a disappointment for the Storm, the team has been hard hit with a number of injuries, including ones suffered by rookie standouts Ron Kelly (wide receiver) and Jason Giosa (linebacker.) "We don't like to look for excuses and football is a contact sport where players get hurt but we've suffered more than our share of injuries to key players," Storm head coach Barry Rushon told SooToday.com. With three games remaining in the regular season, the best the Storm can finish is 4-5 and in a tie for the sixth-and-final playoff spot in the 10-team NFC. But even with that, the tie breaking formula would not favour the Sault. "It doesn't look good for us in terms of making the playoffs," concluded Rushon, "but we want to finish the season on a high and continue to keep our program going by building for next year."
