Charity run raises thousands for pair of local causes

The 1st annual Blood, Sweat, and Beer Charity Run donated $2,500 each to the Twinkie Foundation and The Algoma Autism Foundation

Organizers from a recent charity run who raised money for two local causes are excited to share their event totals.

Around 200 participants had come together at the Root River Golf Course last month to take part in the 1st annual Blood, Sweat, and Beer Charity Run.

Attendees had the option of walking or running a 5 km course while enjoying some beverages along the way thanks to several participating local beer vendors.

With donations coming from participants, sponsors, volunteers, and the Root River Golf Course, the charity run managed to donate $2,500 each to The Twinkie Foundation and the Algoma Autism Foundation.

Event director Nicole Beauchamp was thrilled with the results from their first attempt at the event, and she says they’re already looking forward to hosting again next year.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better day as far as the weather went, and we truly want to thank the community and our participants who registered for taking a chance on a new event and making it very successful in its first year,” she says.

Beauchamp presented the $2,500 cheques to Karen Lefave from the Twinkie Foundation and Jamie Boston from the Algoma Autism Foundation on Monday.

For future runs, the event organizer says they'll raise funds for a different charity each year.
