On Friday, April 13, Father Jaroslaw Lazoryk (Father Jerry) and the St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church proudly welcomed the community to Eat Perogies, Help ARCH.

Held at the church, the evening fundraiser featured a multi-course meal of fresh bread, salad, homemade perogies, sliced porchetta, coffee, tea and tasty treats for dessert. A crowd of over 150 supporters arrived between 5:30-6:30 p.m. for the dinner, raising a total of $3,840 in support of ARCH Hospice.

“This wonderful project was a continuation of our 100th Church Anniversary Celebration. St. Mary’s Church wants to stay active in our city. We are grateful to all participates and volunteers, who came out to support ARCH,” Father Jerry expressed his appreciation after the evening.

ARCH volunteers partnered with the church to provide table service throughout the evening, making sure nobody left feeling hungry.

“This was our first time teaming up with St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church and we profoundly appreciate their support. We can’t say ‘thank you’ enough to everyone who helped roll perogies, make desserts and set up. The entire community seemed to come out to enjoy this great event. What incredible community members we have in Sault Ste. Marie!” shared Katherine Williamson, the Events Coordinator at ARCH Hospice.

Over 1,400 perogies were prepared by the church. Tickets for the event were sold out within days at both St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and ARCH Hospice. Father Jerry was greatly pleased with the public turnout in support of the Hospice, and hopes to make Eat Perogies, Help ARCH an annual fundraiser, if not, possibly even hosting a few a year!
