A credit union is responding to the growing mental health needs in Ontario by donating $10,000 to the Sault Ste. Marie/Algoma branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
YNCU says its commitment to give back and invest in its communities has resulted in $30,000 in donations to CMHA across the province.
YNCU’s branches include the Community First credit unions on Bay Street and Trunk Road in Sault Ste. Marie.
YNCU has also worked closely with CMHA to bring mental health programs to their employees, the company said in a news release.
This year, they partnered with CMHA to bring their staff a webinar on the power of mindfulness and gratitude. This session focused on how mindfulness and gratitude can transform the brain.
YNCU staff received a gratitude journal and bookmark that outlined how they can practice mindfulness in their lives.
The credit union also offers an employee and family assistance program, which provides confidential counselling and other resources for life's challenges.
These resources are available to staff and their families.
“At YNCU, we want our staff to have access to resources they need to support their mental health,” said Hilary Anderson, YNCU’s chief human resources and support services officer. “It is extremely important to us that our team has everything they need to thrive, and this extends to the community we live and work in.”
