SAN JOSE, Calif. — San Jose Sharks forward Joe Thornton has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his injured right knee and there is no timetable for his return.

OTTAWA — The Ottawa Senators' potential move to a downtown arena is a small step closer to becoming reality after the National Capital Commission announced Thursday it had reached an agreement in principle with the RendezVous LeBreton group.

Calgary Flames goaltender Mike Smith has been added to the roster for the NHL all-star game, the league announced Thursday. Smith replaces Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick on the Pacific Division roster.

CALGARY — The Calgary Flames recalled forward Ryan Lomberg from the American Hockey League's Stockton Heat, the team announced Thursday. Lomberg, of Richmond Hill, Ont., has five goals and nine assists with the Heat this season.

CHICAGO — William Nylander scored on a penalty shot 6 seconds into overtime to lift the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-2 win over the sagging Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night.

CALGARY — Tanner Pearson scored with 26.1 seconds left in overtime to lead the Los Angeles Kings to a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Wednesday.

CHICAGO — The Toronto Maple Leafs found themselves in yet another tight game. William Nylander found a way to make sure they got two points this time.

NEW YORK — The NHL has suspended Boston forward Brad Marchand five games without pay Wednesday for elbowing New Jersey's Marcus Johansson in the head during the Bruins' win over the Devils the previous night.

MONTREAL — Legendary hockey writer Red Fisher was remembered as a man who "demanded excellence" at a funeral attended by former hockey players and executives as well as several of his media colleagues on Wednesday.
