NEW YORK — Henrik Lundqvist bounced back after getting roughed up the previous night and helped the New York Rangers get their first win of the season.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Wayne Simmonds ended things quickly in overtime. Simmonds scored 44 seconds into overtime to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night.

VANCOUVER — Bo Horvat watched in awe as players across the NHL filled the net over the last four days. When the Vancouver Canucks finally kicked off their season, the 22-year-old centre got in on the action.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Anze Kopitar and the Los Angeles Kings were mostly pleased with their first road game of the season. Kopitar scored twice, Dustin Brown and Nick Shore also scored and the Kings beat the San Jose Sharks 4-1 on Saturday night.

CALGARY — After zero goals in their first game of the season, the Calgary Flames needed a big night on the scoresheet and T.J. Brodie helped them get it Saturday.

WASHINGTON — Alex Ovechkin scored four goals to become the first player in 100 years with back-to-back hat tricks to open a season, and the Washington Capitals beat the Montreal Canadiens 6-1 on Saturday night.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — James Neal's first season with a brand new team is off to a dream start, for both Neal and the Vegas Golden Knights.

CHICAGO — The Blackhawks and their marquee players are starting the season in high gear. Brandon Saad, Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews each had a goal and assist to lead Chicago over the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-1 on Saturday night.

TORONTO — New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist had a grin ear to ear in the first period that was visible through his mask. But he was only saving face.

ST. LOUIS — Jake Allen and the Blues did everything they could to spoil former coach Ken Hitchcock's return to St. Louis.
