Canadian Franklin released by Saints less than a week after signing with club

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints released Canadian offensive lineman Orlando Franklin on Tuesday.

Franklin, 29, signed a one-year deal with the Saints on Thursday after being released by the Los Angeles Chargers. The six-foot-six, 315-pound Toronto resident had been working at left guard with New Orleans but was let go after just five practices with the club.

Franklin began his NFL career with the Denver Broncos after being selected in the second round of the 2011 draft out of Miami. He spent four seasons with the Broncos before signing a five-year, US$36.5-million contract with the San Diego Chargers in 2015.

Franklin has appeared in 89 career NFL games, all starts.
