July 30, 1939 - March 19, 2025
Surrounded by her loving family, our sweet mother Cécile passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 19, 2025, at Extendicare Mapleview in Sault Ste Marie Ontario. She is predeceased by her parents Augustin Minor and Zélie (née Blake), our father Jean Paul Beaudoin (2006) and siblings Hector, Leonard, Théo, Télésphore, Lionel, Onid, Rhéal, Claire, May Rose, Noëlla and Ronald. Mum will forever be held in the hearts of her remaining brothers and sisters and her children Monique (David), Nicole (Blake) and Diane (Wayne). She will be cherished always as a most beloved grandmother to Cécilia, Alexandre and Ali, as well as her special granddaughter Tila. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as one special great-grandson.
Cécile was born on a country farm near Mattawa Ontario as the oldest daughter in a family of 22 children. Although the work was hard from a very young age, her fondest memories were of helping her parents care for her younger siblings and of the close bonds they all cherished. She loved going to the country school and relished the opportunity to learn. In her teens, Mum worked at the hospital in Mattawa with the Grey Nuns of the Cross who faithfully provided healthy and homemade meals to patients, staff and nearby clergy. Despite the long hours, she cultivated many friendships as well as a deep respect for the women and men who made life better for others. She would continue this legacy of generosity and compassion throughout her life.
Mum and Dad met in Mattawa, fell in love and married in 1960. They quickly began a family of their own. With her strength and the love and support of her family, Mum worked tirelessly to care for us as our father spent long periods working in the bush of towering white pines to provide for his family. There truly was an abundance of love and delicious cooking in her home. In 1971, Cécile and Jean Paul moved their young family to Sault Ste Marie and continued to build a strong sense of community with friends new and old. We thank them for the values of hard work, education, and faith that they cultivated in their children. We are made better for it and are filled with gratitude for these gifts.
We would like to thank the caring staff of Tunnel Lake at Extendicare Mapleview for their unwavering support and dedication to our mother’s care. To all of you, your expertise, kindness, and humour have made a world of difference in Mum’s life as well as our own. You have truly become like family.
A spring funeral mass for Cécile at Ste Anne Roman Catholic Church followed by burial at the Cimetière St. Anne Cemetery in Mattawa Ontario are planned and will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home in the Sault and Martyn Funeral Home in Mattawa. Donations to the Alzheimer’ s Society or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
“Maman, que votre âme repose en paix" – ces mots, bien que dits dans un souffle, portent le poids de notre amour infini et de notre solitude sans vous. Que les anges vous accueillent avec la même douceur avec laquelle vous avez enveloppé nos vies.
