September 7, 1937 – March 18, 2025
Joyce Boyer has played her last game of bingo and smoked her last smoke. She passed away on her own terms at the NSHN-Thessalon in her 88th year. She is reunited with her beloved husband Rudy (d.2004), her daughter Debbie Botke (d.2007), her grandson Craig Whitfield (d.2001), parents Wilbur and Juliette Miller as well as 7 siblings. Caring mother of Dawna Boyer Witty (late Harley). Proud Grandma of Lynn (Brent), Leslie (Dennis), Tanya (Scott), Kia-Lee (Jason) and Calem (Misty) and great grandma of Robert (Santana), Riley (Noah), Hunter, Britney, Lauren, Mackenzy, Michael, Lennon, Ethan, Chloe, Carter and Aaron. She’ll be dearly missed by Elaine Lees (late Malcom), as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and her fan base at Algoma Manor.
Joyce was a force of nature known for NOT holding back her opinions or concerns. She didn’t mince words, and you knew exactly where you stood when you encountered her. In other words, she was a character, a genuinely unique individual who feared nothing or nobody. Despite her outward toughness Joyce had a big heart. She was a fierce protector and advocate for many. Her friends at Algoma Manor were thankful that she cared for those around her.
Joyce’s favorite holiday was Halloween, and she was famous around town for her homemade candy apples. She also made sure her family was well fed with raspberry jam thumbprint cookies and butter tarts. To our disappointment she wouldn’t share her recipes.
She loved to gamble and spent many a day scooting around the North Shore with the girls in the “bingo bus”. She also loved playing the slots at the casino.
Joyce was a real firecracker and a genuine spitfire. We will miss her feisty personality and quirkiness. May her bingo dabber never run dry and may she have a never-ending supply of smokes. We love you.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Algoma Manor for their tolerance and sense of humour in caring for our mother and grandmother.
