It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Roland on Saturday February 16, 2019 at the Sault Area Hospital as the result of a stroke. Roland was born in Jena, Germany on July 22, 1935. Son of the late Elizabeth and Bernhard Dannrath. Dearest friend and partner of Marilyn Eddy for 21 years. Beloved father of Monique (Jim), Oliver, Cristiaan (Michelle), Bernie (Amy) and Carolyn. Opa to Jessica, Shannon, Brandon, Hayden, Savannah, Nicky, Isiah, Neekoda and Ava. Great grandfather of Max and Thorin. Dearest and loving brother of Ava (Oldenberg, Germany), late Bernhard (Renate), late Erika Moser (Erich) and Rudolf (Brenda). Special friend to Ward, Bonnie, Gunner and Roger Eddy, Judy & Darrell Ward and Alice & Ken Ward. Roland loved the outdoors and spent many years skiing, canoeing, camping at Batchewana and spending time at his cottage on Upper Island Lake and St. Joseph's Island. He was an excellent dancer and would take the opportunity whenever he could. Roland was a long time member of the German, Austrian Club and always looked forward to their gatherings. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends from his coffee times at the Station Mall. Over the past 6 years, Roland conquered many illnesses but this one he could not. Our thanks goes out to the doctors who cared for him including Dr. Pearce (Sudbury oncology), Dr. Shona Smith (thorsasec surgeon), Dr. Aziz, Dr. Hill and especially, Dr. Daniel Fritz for all his care and kindness. Thank you also to the staff in 3C and ICU at the Sault Area Hospital for their professional care. In honour of Roland's life there will be a Come and Go reception at Grand Gardens (68 Denis Street) on Sunday February 24, 2019 from 1-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made by cheque to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice. Interment at Maple Grove Cemetery, St. Joseph's Island in the summer. Arrangements entrusted to O'Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 215 St. James St, 705-759-8456.
