July 31, 1931 — January 9, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anthony “Tony” Fazi on January 9, 2025, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Ottawa after a long battle with heart failure.

Born on July 31, 1931, Tony was the son of James Fazi and Theresa (Mastroianni) Fazi, both of whom predeceased him. He was also preceded in death by his brother Frank and his daughter Dana.

Tony is survived by his wife, Connie (Huard) Purawec; his children Frank and Anthea; his stepchildren Carol, Natalie, and Paul; his grandchildren Sadie, Montana, and Ty; his step-grandchildren Nicole, Chloe, Jessica, Amelia, Amanda, Ethan and Ava; and his great-grandchildren Maverick and Emmett

In the 1950s, Tony proudly served in the American military, an experience that shaped his discipline and resilience. Following his service, he pursued a career in education, becoming a teacher and head of the business department at Sir James Dunn High School in Sault Ste. Marie. Tony inspired countless students until his retirement in 1992.

Basketball was a lifelong passion for Tony, and he was deeply involved in the sport as a player, coach, and enthusiastic supporter. Whether on the court or cheering from the sidelines, his love for the game was evident to all who knew him. A devoted Catholic, Tony never missed a Saturday Mass, drawing strength and peace from his unwavering faith and commitment to his church and community.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus and St. Vincent’s Hospital for their compassionate care and support during Tony’s final days.

Tony’s impact on those who knew him will not be forgotten.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A service to celebrate Tony’s life will be held, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke foundation
