HILL, Onni Matias

Peacefully, at the Sault Area Hospital on Saturday May 4, 2019 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Martha (nee Haapala, predeceased 2001). He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Karen Doyle (Steve) and sons, Richard (Carole MacInnes-Rae) and Terry (Colleen Brady). He was the caring “Gramps” of Craig, Carrie (Jason), Lesley (Matt), Darryl (AnnMarie), Lewis (Cathy) and Aaron. Wonderful “GG” of Aiden, Finlay, Nolan, Garrett, Alexa and Kye. Predeceased by his parents, Eino and Aini (Lahti) Hill and brother, Paul Hill (Joyce). Brother in law of Hazel Kauppi (Arvo) and uncle to many. Onni spend many of his working years in the aviation industry as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, taking him to many remote locations in the north. He culminated his career as an Aviation Inspector for Transport Canada prior to retiring to St. Joseph Island where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and making maple syrup. Family and friends are invited to join in a Celebration of Life at the Town Hall, 1211 Richards Street, Richards Landing on Saturday June 8, 2019 from 1-4 p.m. The family would like to thank Dr. Albert Beller, Dr. D. Berry and Dr. M. Shafiee as well as the wonderful staff at the Bridgelink Medical Centre, Sault Area Hospital ICU and 3B for their care and compassion. Donations to North Shore Network Auxiliary – Matthews Site in memory of Onni would be appreciated by the family.
