Born in Lago, in the province of Cosenza, Calabria Italy on July 14, 1942. Son of the late Guido and Pierina (nee Coscarella). Died peacefully into the arms his Lord and Saviour Jesus on April 9, 2024.
Diego immigrated to Canada in 1953. He was the eldest brother of Maria Guzzo (Giovanni), Frances Campagna (late Eddy) all of Sault Ste Marie and Josephine (Collin Miller) of Richmond Hill. Husband and best friend for 24 years of Donna Fliesser, and the late Paula Theriault-Orlando. Father of the late Anthony (Kathy), Paul (Erin), late Martin and Maria. Grandfather of Kasey, Zachary, Paige Politano. Stepfather to Robert, Richard, and Carla, step grandfather to Madison and Mikayla Ritter, Jennifer, and Christopher Fliesser and step great grandfather to Carter Schultz. Brother-in-law to the Givens families (Wally (Olga)). Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Diego spent a long career as a diesel mechanic first with Lakeway Trucking and then retired after a 25-year career with Sault Transit. He was a long-time coworker and friend of Louis Portelli (Kathy). He loved music (especially opera), dances at the Marconi Hall and attending church. Diego enjoyed working with his hands, woodworking, gardening, wine, and salami making in his spare time.
Family would like thank staff of Extendicare Maple View and the Alzheimer's day away program for their care and support in Diego's last few years.
Cremation will take place, with internment Friday, April 19, 2024, at 11am, West Section of Greenwood Cemetery. Graveside Service presided over by Nicholas Sarlo of Bethel Bible Chapel.
