“If you're reading this, you'll know I lost my battle with pancreatic cancer.”
Mike passed away peacefully at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice with his wife and best friend, Darlene, by his side at the age of 66. Born to Waltrud and Hans Joachim Siemers, who predeceased him, Mike lived a life full of love, dedication, and community service.
He was the proud and devoted father of Terri Giosa (Derrick), Danny (Erin), and Shaun (Joanne). He cherished all of his grandchildren - grandpa to Jayven and Kierra, papa to Rori and Edie, and bonus grandpa to Daik and Zoe. Bonus grandpa also to Darlene’s grandchildren - Adia, Eli, Ashtyon, Carson, Amethyst, Christopher, Nola and Nash. Mike was a much-loved big brother to Doris and Tina, and a fun-loving brother-in-law to Danielle (late Blair), Donald (Michelle) Dina (Paul), late Danny (Doreen), late Derrick (Joanne). Mike will also be missed by Jaime McMillan, many nieces and nephews, his best friends Fred and Cindy Shaughnessy, and the mother of his children Tammy Mitchell (Tom).
After graduating Central Algoma Secondary School (CASS), Mike pursued his passion for carpentry by attending trade school in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He became a talented carpenter and eventually a supervisor with several companies, including George Stone & Sons and Ellis Don. Mike was also a proud member of the Local 246 Carpenter's Union, where he formed many lifelong friendships.
Outside of friends and family, giving back to his local community was one of Mike’s greatest joys. He dedicated his time to his children's hockey and baseball teams, and recently found a passion volunteering with the Echo Bay Elks, in particular the baseball and cribbage leagues.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Nurses Amy (and her little buddy Betty White), and Jessica, for the compassionate care they showed Mike, and all the staff at ARCH.
Cremation has been entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E., 705-759-2522). A graveside service will take place on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 11am at Maple Leaf Cemetery (Maple Leaf Road, Echo Bay). Celebration of Life will follow at the Echo Bay Elks. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Echo Bay Elks #535 or be provided in trust to Darlene Siemers for the upkeep of the Echo Bay Elks ball fields. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Siemers family.
