It is with great sorrow the family of Fred A Tilson, of St Joseph Island, announce his sudden passing in his 75th year. On April 27, 2024 Fred went to be with his Lord and Saviour, surrounded by his family.

Fred was born on April 14, 1950, the son of late Frank and Esther (Moate) Tilson in Port Arthur, the District of Thunder Bay, ON. Fred loved his family dearly: Lorraine Tilson mother of his beloved children Cyndi Lucier (Abe Guenther), Kathie Tilson, Kevin Tilson (Janette Garrod), and Steven Tilson (Amy Gashi-Tilson) and son-in-law Stephen Lucier. Nothing shone brighter in Papa’s eyes than his six grandchildren Aidan and Kaylee Lucier (Cyndi), Oliver and Duncan Tilson (Steven), and Eva and Lucas Tilson (Kevin). Fred is predeceased by his parents, sisters  Dorothy Gordon, Shirley Tilson, Bonnie Tilson and brothers Frank Tilson and Tom Tilson (Trudy). Fred is survived by his brothers Dick Tilson (late Alice), John Tilson, sisters Betty Doucet (late Greg), Jean Albertson (John), numerous nieces and nephews. Fred had a very soft spot for all his nieces and nephews, treating them as his own. Each one has their own story to tell whether it’s a fishing trip he took them on, a campfire story, a road trip, or a visit; there is always a great uncle Freddie story to be remembered and told.

Fred loved to fish, hunt and spend as much time as he could with his friends and family. He loved the outdoors. When he couldn’t be in a boat, he loved being in his dream house on St Joseph Island, feeding the animals off his deck, watching the birds, and watching the ships sail past.

We want to express our sincere gratitude for the love and care that the Nadijiwon family, Bernie and Janine, Phil, and Deanna, Mike and Jessica, Jonathon and Marney Stewart and all their children have given to our father over the years. Thank you for taking him in as one of your own. He loved you all very much. You were truly his second family.

The family want to make special mention and thank you to the amazing nurses and doctors at Sault Area Hospital. The team took such wonderful care of our father while he was in the hospital. We can’t thank you enough for the special treatment and support given to the family and our father during this difficult time.

The family welcomes you to join them at St. Joseph Island Free Methodist Church for a time of visitation on Thursday May 2, 2024 at 10 am. Service to be held at 11:30 am, with luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions payable by cheque or online to the Canadian Cancer Society or the St. Joseph Island Free Methodist Church can be made in Fred's honour. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home - Barton and Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East, 705-759-2522). Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Tilson family.
