TORONTO — Ontario is reporting a slight uptick in new COVID-19 cases. The province says there are 166 new cases, 47 of them in Windsor-Essex. Health Minister Christine Elliott says 28 of 34 public health units have five or fewer infections.

TORONTO — Provincial police say a motorcyclist killed in a crash on Highway 4-2-7 may have been racing another vehicle. Officers are looking for a white Mercedes Benz that left the scene. Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the Mercedes is likely showing damage.

TORONTO — Long-term care homes that don't provide personal protective equipment to their staff as they prepare to allow visitors inside those facilities will face consequences, Premier Doug Ford said Friday.

The group representing Ontario's doctors wants the provincial government to reconsider allowing indoor bars to reopen. Bars were allowed to start serving customers indoors on Friday in parts of the province that are allowed to enter Stage 3.

MONTREAL — The recent resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Quebec is due to private gatherings rather than bar visits, Premier Francois Legault said Friday.

TORONTO — The Toronto Zoo says a two-year-old red panda named Ila gave birth to two healthy cubs earlier this week. The zoo says it is the first time a red panda has been pregnant there in 24 years.
