Hard to believe 1/3 of respondents are so uncaring. Education is the best way to get out of a low income, how is it a bad thing to encourage low income families to pursue education? More educated workforces stimulate the economy. Why throw the savings into your checking account when you could invest it in an essential guarantee?
The problem is there relying on “our money” to further there education...... that would be my money paying teachers paid by my money to get a education, you sheeple need some peanuts to start standing up for yourselves
Uncaring? Hardly. 20 years of saving to put 2 kids through post secondary education. Unfortunately, no one should be guilted into feeling or be labeled “uncaring” for thinking that people should put out their best effort to further themselves. It’s about choices. It always is about choices. For once, let’s start to ask the same from everyone, not ask more from people to satisfy the lack of effort from others. Please don’t chastise the mentioning of a possible “lack of effort” on some people’s behalf...Effort may be a solution to a large portion of this issue and if that isn’t an option, there is always OSAP. This is right from their website - “You can apply for an OSAP credit check review if you can demonstrate all of the following: your financial difficulties were due to circumstances beyond your control; you are now financially stable; and. you will be able to repay any further student loans that may be issued to you”.
In the end, if there isn’t any effort to plan and one cannot pass a credit check... I would be curious as to why this would be expected to fall on the tax paying public to remedy?
I didn’t indicate that. I stated that one could A) Either put forth the effort to make certain changes and thus have different options; or B) Seek assistance where the user will be the one to ultimately be responsible for the chance to further themselves. This can be accomplished by seeking out grants, OSAP, bursaries and other such forms of assistance. If one can not access certain assistance due to poor credit, OSAP offers solutions to remedy that issue as well.
Or wait, should the answer still be to make it free and ensure that no one ever understands what it takes to take ownership and responsibility for themselves and their actions... or more so, to feel the positive impacts of being the one that turned things around for themselves.
No perfect answer for options on how to acheieve this but neither is to just have someone else pay for it.
Nope. You’re wrong. I indicated that one could make changes and ultimately change their situation... or, if this is impossible to do like you have stated, there are multiple agencies, and networks that can provide the resources necessary to achieve the end goal of a post secondary education. This may include OSAP that may require said individual to understand that payment in return is expected. As I also stated, from the OSAP website, even with poor credit can one receive the funds to manage tuition costs. So ultimately, what I have pointed out is there are a variety of options and possibilities for everyone that may want to pursue an education. They may require work, commitment, responsibility and maybe a bit of good luck. Unfortunately, the one that doesn’t exist anymore is the possibility that everyone else will pay for it.
Says the person who lived in a time where you could pay off tuition fees in one summer and was handed a job on a silver platter. Nowadays young people have to put in way more money and effort to get a good job. It shouldn't be too much for us to ask for the same thing you guys got.
@b34stly The 90’s? Not that old... sorry... I worked to pay off my tuition debt and was capable of doing so as I was able to obtain a decent paying job because I worked hard in securing my education. I have since worked my way up to a fulfilling career. I, in no way, was handed a job and I certainly see what young people have to put in today - As I stated, I am currently putting in that money for our youngest. You’re argument lacks consistency and position. I say this because to sarcastically sum up your point... the next time I’m at the grocery store, I’ll try and slide 3 quarters, two dimes and a nickel across to the cashier for a few bags of groceries and see how he/she reacts. I mean, it shouldn’t be too much to ask for the same things our grandparents had?
Yes folks, Ford and the PCs are just terrible, heartless politicians !! Maybe some of you liked what the libs and ndp, if they'd won, were doing to this once rudderless province; everything should be free !! Yes free, free, free !!! Darn it,....FREE !!! When I was in university, there were grants available, and between my job at A & P and these grants, I was able to pay off my university loan, even without much additional help from my parents. There continues to be this group of individuals in today's society that has this constant belief and even demands, that some else has to pay for the things we want, like a good education. This liberal, ndp mentality that the 1% should be forced to pay more so everyone of us in the lower income scale get things for free. Yes, free....!! I was always an average income earner, and I've always believed that if you want something bad enough, you will find a way to pay for it,...……..yourself.
The fact that 1) You went to university so long ago, and 2) you admitted you still needed help repaying your debt from your parents shows how disconnected you are from the difficulties of the current student. Tuition has skyrocketed, as has cost of living in major cities. Tuition has tripled in the last 20 years, while inflation has only been about 40%. What's covering the other 160% increase?
This mentality, that some else must pay for it, is not sustainable, but characters like trudeau, horwath and wynne think it's just fine. The debt that these 3 clowns would leave on our children and grandchildren is completely unforgiveable. Right now, in Ontario, the interest alone is over $ 1 Billion/month. But, a number of us still think these 3 characters are just so marvelous and so caring and the other Government is heartless. It's time many of these voters out there realize that adults have to make adult decisions. Nothing is free in this world, never was, never will !!! Hope everyone has a nice, albeit, "polar vortex" weekend...………..
countrylad1966 You are right. Ford and his cronies doesn't care about the average or middle class workers. The only people he is going to help during his tenure are his fellow rich cats. Ford was not elected because of what he promised during the campaign; he was elected because people were fed up with Wynne..
This poll is presented ridiculously..Yes focus on the budget or No everyone deserves a fair shot on education...The cut in grant doesnt stop anyone from having a fair shot at education

You just mentioned help from your parents well lots of people do not have the backing you did.

Did anyone else notice that all the cuts ford is making, his wage and his cabinet have not been affected? Maybe they should start cutting from the top

And the feds are next with feeling master Trudeau giving all our money away.... that guy doesn’t have the experience to run a bicycle rental shop

All in the name of "efficiency".
To all you doug ford supporters, just Google that families history, there’s a reason his nickname is “drug ford”
That is a great idea...because everyone should be judged based on their past...or better yet their dead brother’s past..
