Seniors’ concerns will take centre stage at today's all candidates meeting

As the federal election approaches, two retiree groups are giving voters a chance to question potential MPs

A meet the candidates for MP event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25 in Sault Ste. Marie.

The focus of the meeting will be on issues of concern to seniors, including health care, long-term care, housing and climate change in the Sault Ste. Marie- Algoma) tiding. The two groups hosting are t Algoma Branch of the National Association of Federal Retirees (NAFR) and District 3 Algoma RTOERO (formerly the Retired Teachers’ of Ontario).

Candidates from the four major parties have been invited to attend, as per the policies of both national organizations. There will be approximately one hour of predetermined questions. There will also be an opportunity for the audience to pose questions, followed by closing remarks.

The public is welcome to attend. As well as the opportunity to be there in person, the organizations have arranged for it to be livestreamed by Rogers Communications. It will also be live on Rogers, as well as on Channel 10 or 105 IgniteTV.

District 3 Algoma RTOERO represents over 1,200 members retired from the education community. Together the two seniors’ groups represent more than 1,500 voters in Algoma.
