Yesterday evening at approx. 8:25 PM City Police were called to the intersection of Bruce Street and Algoma Avenue in regards to a fail to remain accident. Upon arrival officers received information on the suspect vehicle. At approx. 8:38 PM the suspect vehicle was located on Landslide Road and stopped.

Upon stopping the driver the officers detected a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. As a result Brian Kelly, D.O.B. 6Nov53 of 1 Root River was charged with Impaired Driving, Drive Over 80 mgs and Fail to Remain. One of the passengers in the other vehicle sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision. He will be appearing in court on Jan 12th at 9:00 AM.

At approx. 3:40 AM this morning City Police were called to an address on Champlain Ave in regards to a motor vehicle stuck in the snow bank. Upon arrival officers observed a male attempting to get his vehicle free from the snow bank.

Upon speaking to him it was noted that he had a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. He was subsequently arrested for Impaired Driving and Drive Over 80 mgs. Charged is Lance Raymond Jodoin, DOB 10May64 of 23 Hillside Drive. He will be appearing in court on January 12th at 9:00 AM.


R.I.D.E. PROGRAMS UP AND RUNNING

In an effort to reduce incidents like the two previous ones, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will be operating it’s RIDE programs this weekend. Citizens are advised that if you are arrested for Impaired Driving you will automatically be suspended from driving for 90 days from the time of your arrest. If you are going to drink take a cab home-don’t drive.

ASSAULT CHARGES

Early yesterday afternoon City Police were called to an address in the 100 block of Hughes Street in regards to an assault, threatening and mischief complaint. The victim and the witness gave the officers details of the incident. A short time later the officers located the suspect and arrested him. The victim knows the accused in this incident. The accused, a 24-year-old male, is charged with Assault, Threatening Death and Mischief. He will be appearing in Bail Court today at 1:30 PM.


ODDS AND ENDS

In other news City Police are investigating the attempted theft of a motor vehicle in the 200 block of Albert Street West. The incident, which was called in yesterday morning, involves a vehicle that had its driver side window smashed and ignition tampered with.

A break and enter was reported yesterday in the 200 block of Alexandra Street. It is not known what was taken.

The Sault Ste Marie Police and Fire Services were called to a house fire yesterday at approx. 8:50 PM. The fire, which occurred in the 200 block of Glasgow Avenue is under investigation. There were no injuries reported and the extent of damage is not yet known.
