Police have charged Matthew Rains with impaired driving following a motorcycle collision that occurred early this morning in the area of Fifth Line and Great Northern Road.
A news release issued today by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service reports that the 40-year-old accused was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

On June 24, 2021, officers with Patrol Services charged 40-year-old Matthew Rains with impaired driving.
Around 12:47 a.m., officers responded to a call of a possible motor vehicle collision in the area of Fifth Line and Great Northern Road. Upon arrival, officers located an injured man sitting off the roadway and a motorcycle in the tree line off the roadway.
Upon speaking with the accused, officers developed grounds to believe his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The accused was transported to hospital with non life-threatening injuries and later failed to provide a breathe sample to officers.
He was arrested and charged with impaired driving – alcohol and drugs and refusing to comply with a demand.
He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 9, 2021.
