One person was arrested early yesterday morning after police say they fled during an attempted traffic stop on St. Andrews Terrace.

The driver in question was located a short time later on Beverly Street and arrested, says a news release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Officers located another person’s driver’s licence as well as suspected fentanyl during a search of the accused.

Full text of the news release follows:

On Aug. 31, 2023, officers with Patrol Services charged 40-year-old Blake Hudson with flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation, and several other offences.

Around 2:40 a.m., officers observed a vehicle with no front licence plate on St. Andrews Terrace. Officers activated emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop but the driver did not stop for police. The driver then drove through a stop sign on Edinburgh Street and continued at a high rate of speed. Police did not pursue the vehicle to preserve officer and public safety.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle at a residence in the 200 block of Beverly Street and the person who had been driving the vehicle was standing outside. They were identified as the accused and arrested.

A subsequent search found the accused to be in possession of another person’s driver’s licence and approximately one gram of what is believed to be fentanyl.

The accused is charged with:
    •    Flight from peace officer
    •    Dangerous operation
    •    Possession of identity document
    •    Possession of schedule I substance
    •    Failure to display two plates (under the Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 6, 2023.
