Early Saturday morning, Sault Police officers responded to a report of a running vehicle in a parking lot in the 100 block of Great Northern Road that was partially parked on the sidewalk just before 1 a.m.
The vehicle contained four people who were asleep.
Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle and woke up the sleeping occupants, police said in a news release.
Officers saw drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle and, upon speaking with the driver, Whitney Kagige, developed grounds to believe her ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs. She was arrested.
A search of Kagige located a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine. She was transported to hospital to provide a blood sample.
Police charged Kagige, 32, with operation while impaired, dangerous operation, and possession of a schedule I substance.
Kagige is charged with:
- Dangerous Operation
- Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Drug Concentration
- Possession of Schedule I Substance
Kagige was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on April 14.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Kagige is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
