Around 9 p.m. on May 27, police officers arrived at a business area in the 600 block of John Street responding to break and enter in progress.
According to the news release, an employee entered the property and confronted a man wearing a bandana to hide his face. The accused allegedly assaulted the employee and tried to escape from the area.
Upon arrival, officers located and arrested the 38-year-old accused. They found with him break-in tools, a substance believed to be fentanyl and a stolen wallet.

On May 27, officers with Patrol Services charged Kevin Vaz, 38, with break and enter, assault and disguise with intent.
Around 9 p.m., officers responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a business in the 600 block of John Street. An employee had attended the property and confronted a man wearing a bandana to obscure his face, who was inside a secure area. It’s alleged the man assaulted the employee and attempted to flee the area.
When officers arrived, they contained the area, locating and arresting the accused a short time later. A subsequent search found the accused had break-in tools, a small amount of a substance believed to be fentanyl and a wallet, which had been reported stolen in July 2020.

- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Possession of a controlled substance

He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on July 25, 2022.
