The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service held the 20th annual Crime Prevention Seminar yesterday at the Holiday Inn. Over 43 community groups and law enforcement agencies from both sides of the border were in attendance at the seminar.

This year’s presenter, Special Agent J. Bedford from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, spoke to approximately 165 participants on the risks and realities of terrorism. His case studies of various terrorist attacks, including the attack on the Pentagon on September 11th were very enlightening.

YOUTH CHARGED WITH THEFT
On Tuesday evening between 9:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. a 14 year old young person took two walkie- talkies and a hat from a residence in the city’s west end. Last night at 9:15 pm patrol officers arrested and charged the youth with theft. The young person will appear in court in mid December

PERJURY CHARGES.
At 2:10 pm yesterday afternoon Detectives attended at the Northern Treatment Centre and charged Timothy Newman, age 39 of 86 Grace Street with Perjury. Officers were able to determine that the accused had allegedly misled officials at his bail hearing on other charges. The accused will appear in court next month on this charge.

IMPAIRED
At 2:35 am this morning patrol officers checked a male on Queen Street East. Officers learned from a police records check that the male, Drew Boyer, age 35 of 101 Murphy Street was wanted on several outstanding arrest warrants for Impaired Driving and Failing to Appear in Court. Boyer was arrested on these warrants and will appear in bail court.

FREE CAB RIDE-NOT!
At 4:10 am this morning patrol officers were called to the Knights Inn at 410 Pim Street for a person who refused to pay his cab fare. Officers arrested and charged the male passenger, Jason Siemens, age 32 of 3869 Island Rd. Fredericton N.B. with Obtaining Transportation by Fraud.

A search of the accused revealed several small pills believed to be a controlled drug. He was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug, and will appear in bail court.

BREAK INS LAST NIGHT
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated three break ins to businesses overnight. Shortly before midnight police were advised of a break in to Bitonti Motors at 95 Second Line East. Shortly after midnight officers were called to the NorBear office at 360 Second Line East and then to Hollow Metal at 15 Sackville Rd. for the report of two break ins.
