DOMESTIC ASSAULT
Yesterday morning the accused, a 46-year-old male, was arrested at a residence in the city’s west end for a domestic assault against an adult female.

Patrol officers learned that both parties got into an argument over broken reading glasses, which escalated to the point where the accused grabbed the victim by the arm and threw her into the bedroom and slapped her across the face.

The victim received minor injuries in the assault. At 9:47 am the accused was arrest and charged with Assault. He will appear in court October 20th.


WOMAN TURNS HERSELF IN
On the 24th of July 2003 an 18-year-old female failed to attend court. Yesterday she went to the Police Services Building and turned herself over to police. Outstanding arrest warrants were executed at 2:14 pm and she was charged with Failing to Appear in Court and Breach of Probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. She will appear in court in mid October.

In a similar incident, Jason Smith, age 25 of 926 North Street failed to appear for court on July 14th, 2003. A bench warrant was issued by the court for his arrest. Yesterday the accused was located at a residence on Pim Street. At 5:40 pm patrol officers executed the arrest warrant for Failing to Appear in Court. He will appear in court October 20th.


TEEN CAUGHT AT SEARS
Yesterday, the accused, a 16-year-old young person was observed by Sears store security walking into the change room with some clothing items. The youth left the change room without the items and was stopped by security.

They found the items, as well as other assorted merchandise from mall stores hidden on the youth. In lieu of formal charges under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the young person agreed to pay a small amount of money to a local service agency.


WOMAN DAMAGES CAR
Sometime in the early hours of the 14th of September, the accused, a 22-year-old female had been drinking at a downtown residence. The female then went to another downtown residence and committed mischief to a car parked in the driveway there.

She scratched words on the side of the car and punched two large holes in the rear window. The owner was known to the accused. Yesterday at 7:53 pm the accused was arrested and charged by patrol officers with Mischief under $5,000.00 and Breach of Probation. She will appear in court on October 20th.


SCHOOL BROKEN INTO
Last Friday the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service was advised of a break and enter at Greenwood Public School. School staff advised police that the break-in had occurred around August 14th. The building had received minor damage but nothing appeared missing.

In early September, staff realized that a sound system had been stolen. Yesterday, detectives from the Investigation Services Section of the Police Service went to a home in the city and a youth at the residence turned over the sound system to the police officers.

A 16-year-old young person was subsequently arrested and charged with Possession of Stolen Property. The youth will appear in court in mid October.


ASSOCIATING WITH THE WRONG PERSON
Yesterday at approximately 9:55 pm, city police officers went to a Bruce Street address to check on the whereabouts of a person. Patrol officers had observed two males entering the residence, one of which appeared to be an 18-year-old who was on release conditions not to be associating with the male who resided at that residence.

Upon further investigation, officers observed the youth sitting on the couch in the living room area and to be talking with the individual he was not to associate or communicate with.

At 10:05 pm the accused was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of Failing to Comply with his Undertaking and Breach of Probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He will appear in bail court today.


YOUTH ARRESTED FOR BREACH
Early today at approximately 12:55 am, patrol officers at a downtown residence arrested the accused, a 15-year-old youth, for Breach of Probation. Investigation revealed the young person had failed to be in his residence by their 10:00 pm curfew for September 15th. The youth will appear in court in mid October to answer to this charge.


BREAK & ENTERS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated several break-ins yesterday.

Shortly before 8:00 am police were called to a home on Linstedt Street where thieves had entered a garage and stolen car stereo equipment.

At 8:01 am, school staff from Bawating Collegiate at 750 North Street advised police that the school had been forcibly entered during the weekend and a small amount of cash and several cans of pop were taken.

At 9:09 am police were advised that the Odd Fellows Hall at 124 Dennis Street had been broken into sometime between Saturday afternoon and Monday morning. It is unknown what taken at this time but thieves forced open numerous cupboards, cabinets and office doors.
