Detectives with the Sault Police Service’s Crime Suppression Unit and Drug Enforcement Unit, with assistance from the Emergency Services Unit, charged two men with multiple firearm offences on Dec. 13.
On Dec. 12, detectives began investigating an unlawful firearm at a residence in the 100 block of Elliott Road.
The next day, detectives located a 28-year-old man in the 400 block of Great Northern Road, where he was arrested.
Detectives executed a search warrant at the 28-year-old's residence. Upon entry, detectives located the second accused within the residence. He was also arrested.
A search of the residence located a sawed-off shotgun and 10 rounds of ammunition.
Sebastian Denis-Beaulieu, 28, is charged with:
- Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device, or Ammunition x2
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x2
- Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
Colin Wawia, 26, is charged with:
- Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device, or Ammunition x2
- Failure to Comply with Undertaking x2
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing. None of the allegations have been tested in court and both men are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
