Two people are facing charges following a traffic stop in Sault Ste. Marie.
Ontario Provincial Police pulled over a vehicle in the 600 block of Trunk Road just after 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 29.
They say a search of the vehicle turned up over 230 grams of suspected fentanyl, over 20 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, a digital scale, packing material, cell phones and over $7,100 in Canadian currency.
Two passengers were arrested.
James Rutherford, 37, of Hilton Beach has been charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking-Methamphetamine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
He appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail on Friday, June 30 and was remanded into custody.
Scott Keating, 37, of Sault Ste Marie has been charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking- Opioid (other than heroin)
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking- Methamphetamine
He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on August 14.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and both men are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
