WAYNE COWAN CHARGED IN RAINONE DEATH On Wednesday, July 16th at 10:40 pm, Paul Christopher Rainone, age 43 of 206 Breton Road, was assaulted in the 600 block of Connaught Avenue.
WAYNE COWAN CHARGED IN RAINONE DEATH
On Wednesday, July 16th at 10:40 pm, Paul Christopher Rainone, age 43 of 206 Breton Road, was assaulted in the 600 block of Connaught Avenue.

The victim was transported to the Sault Area Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. On July 17th police formally charged a 17-year-old young offender with first-degree murder in connection with the death.

An ongoing investigation by detectives into the death revealed that another person had been involved in counselling the offence prior to the victim’s death.

Today at 12:50 pm police officers from the Emergency Services Unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested and charged Robert Wayne Cowan, age 37 of 277 Glasgow Avenue with Manslaughter, Counseling to Commit Robbery and Aggravated Assault, Obstructing Justice and Possession of a Narcotic. The accused will appear in bail court tomorrow at 1:30 pm

YOUTH FACES MULTIPLE CHARGES
On October 6th shortly before 11:00 pm a 14-year-old young person was observed entering parked cars on Summit Ave. The youth stole or attempted to steal several items from the cars in the area.

Police officers attended at the scene and arrested the youth. A police records check revealed the young person was wanted for the theft of a bicycle that occurred on September 3rd. The accused used bolt cutters to cut the lock off this bike and steal it.

Police have charged the youth with three counts of Theft, Possession of House Breaking Tools and Trespassing at Night. The accused will appear in bail court today. On October 7th at 8:25 am and 10:35 pm patrol officers arrested and charged two more young persons in relation to this theft of items from vehicles.

The young offenders, both age 13, have been charged with several offences including, Theft, Trespass at Night and Failing to Comply with an Undertaking. They will appear in court in late November.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT
On Tuesday, the 7th of October 2003 at 7:00 am, the accused, a 41-year-old male from Sault Ste. Marie assaulted an adult female by grabbing her by the ankles and dragging her down the stairs. Injuries to the victim were minor in nature. The assault was the result of a domestic incident. At 9:35 am patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with Assault. He will appear in court on November 24th.

TURNS HERSELF IN
On the 7th of October 2003, Veronica Michelle Collins, age 34 of 292 Albert Street West attended at the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and advised police that there was an outstanding warrant for her arrest.

A police records check revealed that the accused was correct and that an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to an assault charge from August 2003 was in effect. At 10:43 am she was arrested on the strength of the warrant and charged with Failing to Appear in Court. Her new court date is November 24th.

STEALS GROCERIES
On the 7th of October the accused, Grant Mullan, age 44 of the East Gate Hotel on Queen Street allegedly stole a small quantity of groceries from Pino's Get Fresh at 197 Trunk Road.

The accused was apprehended by store staff and turned over to police officers, where at 5:35 pm he was arrested for Theft. The accused original identified himself with a false name but later admitted he had lied regarding his identity. He now faces the additional charge of Obstructing Police. He will appear in court November 17th.

ASSAULTS GIRLFRIEND
On the 7th of October at approximately 10:30 pm, a 27-year-old male assaulted his adult girlfriend, by repeatedly kicking her in the head.

The victim sustained serious injuries in the assault and she was transported to hospital by ambulance. The assault took place inside the couple’s apartment in the west end of the city. At 11:35 pm, patrol officers arrested and charged the accused with Aggravated Assault. He will appear in bail court today.

ANOTHER ASSAULT
At 12:45 am Patrol Officers were called to a residence in the city’s west end for an assault complaint. Officers learned that Keith Marshall, age 48 of 879 Carpin Beach Rd. had forced his way into the residence of a person known to him and assaulted him.

The victim received minor injuries in the assault. At 2:00 am the accused was arrested and charged with Assault. He will appear in court on November 24th.

SEVERAL BREAK-INS
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service investigated several break ins yesterday.

A tenant of an apartment on Wellington Street West advised police that sometime overnight thieves entered his apartment and stole a play station machine.

At 4:11 pm a homeowner on lower St. Georges Ave. advised police that thieves had pried the door off his shed, but had not removed anything.

And in a similiar incident reported at 4:14 pm a homeowner on St. Andrews Terrace advised police that thieves broke into his shed.
