Algoma Public Health (APH) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Sault’s Great Northern Retirement Home (GNRH) over as of Thursday, Jan. 14.
APH had declared an outbreak at GNRH Jan. 7 following the confirmation of COVID-19 in one staff member.
The staff member was reportedly in isolation and surveillance testing of staff and residents was being completed, according to a news release issued at the time.
APH has also declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Sault’s Extendicare Maple View long-term care home over as of Wednesday, Jan. 13.
As of Thursday evening, APH was reporting eight new cases of COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
Of the new cases, seven are from central and east Algoma and one is from the Elliot Lake area. All eight are currently self-isolating.
There are currently 43 active cases in the region as well as one active case that is a non-Algoma resident who is temporarily in the region.
