There's no reason to be alarmed when cell phones, radios and TVs across the province blare with the now familiar tone of the Alert Ready system today.
On May 7, a national test of the Alert Ready system is taking place at 12:55 p.m.
Do not call 911 for information about the test. No action is required. This is only a test.
If you or someone you know relies on a hidden phone for safety, be aware that it may emit a sound during the alert. Please turn it off or move it to a safe location in advance. Please don’t call 911 for information about the test.
Misusing 911 for non-emergencies can delay urgent help for people facing real crises. For general inquiries, call 1-888-310-1122 instead.
Alert Ready is Canada’s emergency alerting system. It delivers critical and potentially life-saving alerts to Canadians through television, radio and LTE-connected and compatible wireless devices.
The Alert Ready system was developed with many partners, including federal, provincial and territorial emergency management officials, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Pelmorex, the broadcasting industry and wireless service providers.
Together, these partners work to ensure Canadians receive alerts immediately and know when to take action to stay safe.
