Crews from the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Service responded to a kitchen fire Tuesday evening on Spruce Street.
The crews responded shortly after 6:30 p.m. to a residence in the 200 block of Spruce Street.
Crews contained and extinguished the fire while also rescuing two dogs.
Firefighters used oxygen masks to help save the animals, who were taken to the vet for precautionary reasons.
There was no one home at the time of the fire.
Paramedics and PUC Services were also on scene.
Further investigation revealed the fire was caused by unattended cooking.
There is significant smoke and fire damage to the kitchen area of the home.
