It was a convocation for the history books.
Algoma University celebrated the academic achievements of 529 graduating students during a breezy afternoon inside the Roberta Bondar Pavilion on Saturday.
The school’s president and vice-chancellor Asima Vezina congratulated the class of 2024 with some motivational remarks before each graduate crossed the stage to claim their well-earned degrees and certificates.
During the ceremony, Algoma University also presented special awards to the following recipients:
- Connor Flood – Alumni Achievement Award
- MPP Ross Romano – Distinguished Alumni Award
- Dr. Paulette Steeves – Distinguished Faculty Award
- Dr. George Sefa Dei – Honourary Doctorate of Social Work
- Atul Kumar – Governor General’s Academic Silver Medal
- Dr. Jody Rebek – Presentation of Excellence in Teaching Award
The opening and closing drum songs were performed by Bear Creek Singers, while Ryan Mauro sang the national anthem.
Graduates were led into the ceremony by drummers and pipers with the 49th Field Regiment.
