City council is expected to award a $2.8-million contract next week to Pioneer Construction Inc. to resurface a 1.8-kilometre stretch of Great Northern Road from Third Line to Wigle Street.
A related bylaw on the agenda for Monday's city council meeting authorizes intermittent road closures there from Tuesday, June 3 until Nov. 14.
When connecting link funding from the province is added in, the total value of the work will be $3.4 million.
Pioneer was lowest among two bids.
Avery Construction Ltd. submitted a $3-million bid.
"The limits of the contract will be extended north on Great Northern Road up to $3,293,092, which is the limit of the available connecting link funding and the city’s required contribution, in order to maximize the funding," said Maggie McAuley, the city's manager of design and transportation engineering, in the report.
