On Nov. 29, Joy Harris of Thunder Bay, Ont. won a $81,872 jackpot in the Sault Area Hospital Foundation (SAHF) November 50/50 draw.

Harris's lucky number (N-13853075) was drawn electronically, and she was called.

She was absolutely thrilled when she got the call.

“I was born and raised in the Soo area and still have family there, so it’s important to me to support the Sault Area Hospital,” she said.

When asked if she has any plans for the winnings, Harris said: “It still doesn’t feel real yet, but we will be celebrating with family, putting on a new deck this summer and supporting a few charities that are important to me.”

Harris wasn’t the only winner this month – SAHF 50/50 celebrated a five-year anniversary with six Early Bird prizes. Five winners took home $1,000 – congratulations to Wendy Merrett (N-23864628), Jean Williamson (N-23278481), Mark Rehoric (N-15266280), Angelo Foggia (N-11695077) and Lynn Jobst (N17289695) – all of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. One Early Bird winner, Barbara Patriquin of Batchawana Bay, took home $5,000 with ticket N-21113521.

“It was an incredible month celebrating the fifth anniversary of SAHF 50/50," said Teresa Martone, Executive Director for Sault Area Hospital Foundation.

"Over the past five years, our dedicated lottery players have helped provide over $4.7 million for medical equipment at our hospital. It’s inspiring to see Saultites, even those who’ve moved away, continue to invest in local healthcare. Thank you to our loyal supporters!”
