The SSM Lions Club is hosting the virtual Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides online and is inviting everyone to register, fundraise and participate virtually.
The Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides is the biggest fundraiser for Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, which provides Canadians with a medical or physical disability a Dog Guide at no cost to them. This year, we have decided to participate virtually, similar to last year’s event.
“A Dog Guide makes such an incredible difference in the lives of people who need their service,” said Cheryl Pavoni, local organizer. “It’s a great feeling to know I could be helping someone in my town or anywhere across Canada.”
Now more than ever, the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is relying on the generous support of its donors and partners to meet its goal of giving Canadians a new leash on life.
With hearing dog guide Gracie, Caroline knows how life-changing a dog guide can be.
“At home, when I take my cochlear implants off, I used to feel vulnerable living on my own, but with Gracie, I feel safe,” said Caroline.
“I sleep soundly each night knowing that if the fire alarm ever went off, she would wake me up and save my life. I no longer worry when I’m out walking by myself. Gracie makes me feel safe and gives me independence. She’s my best friend, companion, and security guard all wrapped up in one,” she added.
How to participate
Join our local walk before May 29 by registering on this website. Under fundraisers, choose SSM Lions Club.
Be sure to log your kilometres so that together, we can help our mascot, Buddy, travel across Canada to raise awareness about dog guides and fundraise to assist the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides in providing life-changing dog guides to Canadians with disabilities.
