Those who pay property taxes may receive their notices late due to increased volume after the Canada Post Strike, but the City of Sault Ste. Marie is reminding residents they are still responsible for paying bills on time, and late payments are subject to interest and penalties.
For more information, see the press release below.
Canada Post services have resumed Dec. 17, 2024. However, due to the anticipated high mail volume, residents may experience delays in receiving property tax notices. Residents are responsible for paying bills on time, and late payments are subject to interest and penalties. Alternative payment methods for property taxes include online banking, visiting your local bank, and/or signing up for Pre-Authorized Payment Plans (PAP) through the City.
Tax schedules
- The Jan. 5, 2025, monthly PAP amount will be the same as the Oct. 5, 2024, amount. Updated payment amounts for February and May will be mailed in January. New enrollees will be contacted with amounts. For questions or to confirm your monthly payment amount, contact the Tax Division at 705-759-5290.
Property owners can simplify tax management by signing up for paperless billing through Virtual City Hall (VCH). This service allows users to view tax account transactions, access up-to-date balances, check current assessment values, and make payments securely using a credit card. Switching to paperless billing ensures timely delivery of tax bills. The Interim Tax bill due dates are March 5 and May 5. Interim Tax bills will be mailed by mid-January.
