A Sault Ste. Marie driver faces impaired charges following a traffic stop in Sudbury on Saturday evening.
Shortly after 9 p.m., OPP conducted a traffic stop for speeding on Highway 69 and 29-year-old Yokithan Jeyakumar was subsequently arrested for impaired driving.
Below is the full text of a news release issued by the OPP. None of the allegations have been tested in court and Jeyakumar is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
A driver was charged with impaired driving after police conducted a traffic stop for speeding.
On March 2, 2024 shortly after 9 p.m., members from the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 69 in the City of Greater Sudbury.
The driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the Sudbury OPP detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Yokithan Jeyakumar, 29 years of age from Sault Ste. Marie, was charged with:
• Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Dangerous operation
The accused was release and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 27, 2024 in Sudbury.
The driver was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
