The Colts improved to 2-1 in the high school football league senior division and gained sole possession of second place behind the 3-0 St. Mary's Knights. The Saints fall to 0-2- . Jon Day led the Korah Colts attack with three touchdowns while having another on a punt return called back on a penalty. Day also gained 105 yards rushing on 24 carries and completed an option pass for 29 yards. Playing on a sloppy Rocky DiPietro Field, both teams experienced fumble problems after the opening kickoff. St. Basil's fumbled away the ball to Korah on their first offensive play before Korah returned the favour with a turnover on a fumble the next play. Day scored two touchdowns in the first half on runs of one and five yards to put the Colts ahead 13-1 at the break. St. Basil scored their lone point on a Frank Caputo field goal attempt that was partially blocked by the Colts Adam Day but still found its way into the end zone. Korah's Matt Parker opened the second half with an 86 yard kickoff return before St. Basil conceded a pair of safeties on fourth down when pinned deep in their own end zone. Jon Day completed the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Travis Tormala made two of three converts attempts while Colin Edwards kicked one. Tyson Vanderloo led the Colts defense, which held St. Basil to -10 yards of total offense, with 4.5 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Adam Day added four tackles and blocked two kicks, Kevin McLeod made 2.5 sacks and Jon Day made 2.5 tackles and an interception. Nick Vorlicek led the St. Basil defense with 8.5 tackles while Chuck Belkosky added 6.5 tackles and a sack. Nate Boniferro and Mike Marotta recorded five tackles each while Mark Porco and Mike Jurich each made four tackles and recovered a fumble. *** EXTRA POINTS: * JUNIOR: In junior action on Saturday morning, Kyle Hoffman scored two second half touchdowns to lead St. Basil past Korah 14-13. Korah, which got touchdowns from Mike Burmaster and Jordan Murtonen, led 13-1 at the half. On Friday afternoon, the White Pines Wolverines blanked the Bawating Braves 19-0. Jonathan Widgett, Nick Minardi and Darcy Rumble scored touchdowns for the Wolverines. * PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Bawating's Matt Gauthier was named the defensive player of the week in the senior division for his 11.5 tackle and one sack effort against White Pines on Friday night. Jon Day was selected on offense for his efforts against St. Basil.
